My name, Marlisse, was given to me by my dad. He chose
that name due to the fact that my sister’s name is Ivelisse and her middle
name is Marie, therefore he combined the two names and created Marlisse.
My parents haven’t actually told me any stories of when I
was born only the fact that I was born in the Community Memorial Hospital in
Ventura. My parents only had two kids, both girls; I’m the youngest in the
family. I do not spend that much time with my grandparents or any part of my
family for the reason that both sides of my family live in Puerto Rico. The
best memories I have about going to my grandparent’s house is merely going to
Puerto Rico in general; it is so beautiful and is truly house-warming to me.
What is special and unique about my family is that we are
Puerto Rican and have numerous members in our family. My grandmother from my
mother’s side had seventeen children and I now have over fifty cousins. I
love having a big family because it is just plain chaos, but I admire it.
Whenever a holiday comes around, the whole family comes to my grandma’s house
to simply be together and eat all kinds of Puerto Rican food. A special
holiday we have is the day of the Three Kings; and we all go to my
grandmother’s house and we make a huge barbeque and eat. My favorite holidays
would have to be with my family in Puerto Rico for Christmas, New Years, and
Dia de Los Reyes (The Day of the Three Kings) this past year, in 2007, because
I haven’t spent those holidays in Puerto Rico with my family since I was
either ten or eleven, the summer before entering the seventh grade.
I’ve lived in
Oxnard my whole life but I have traveled to
Puerto Rico countless times for long periods of time since I was born. I love
traveling, but my favorite place to be is Puerto Rico due to the fact that all
of my family lives over there, it is where I’m from and it is just simply
beautiful. Oxnard now is really tiring, just tired of all the same things
that I want a change; a new place, new people, a new life. I’m looking forward
to graduating, be able to move out, live on my own and experience something
new.
Education gives you many options and helps you prepare
for the future. However, in my opinion, school takes up too much of your
time. Another thing I dislike about school is how overcrowded it is. I do
not participate in any club, group, organization or team, but I have in the
past. I used to play girls softball fast pitch and played for more than nine
years, but I have never been in a group or club.
My favorite subject in school would have to be
Psychology
for the reason that it is actually something I am interested in. The subjects
that gave me the most headaches were math and history due to the fact that
they are really complicated and very confusing. I used to receive awards back
in elementary, certificates for attendance in junior high and most valuable
player in softball.
I plan to attend a university in Puerto Rico because I
will be moving there after I graduate, but I am still not sure which one I’d
like to attend. After I finish school, I am also still unaware of what I want
to do and what career field I am going to choose; just plan on seeing where
life takes me. Hopefully, I will figure it out soon enough and actually be
interested in what my job will be.
But I know that an education will get me places and if I
put my mind into something I will achieve my goals. With luck, I hope I get
into a university in Puerto Rico, figure out what I am going to do with my
life and await that all goes well.
