After many heated and stressed arguments, my parents came
to the
conclusion that Luis was the perfect name for me. Taking various other
names into consideration, it was not until my father came up with an abrupt
idea, shortly before my birth, of naming me after his own father. In an effort
to try and keep the spirit of Grandfather alive, I was given the name Luis.
There aren’t any surprising twists in the moments of my
birth, no midnight trip to the hospital or even an overwhelming shock into
labor by my mother. My birth was described as “by the book” as like father
likes to say. After a few back and stomach pains, my mother decided to check
herself into the hospital and a couple hours afterwards I took my first
breaths as a human being. My mother at the time of my birth was at the age of
34, and already having two daughters before my birth, she gave birth to no
more children, making me the you
ngest of the family. Though I have a very
vague memory of the exact actions of my two older sisters at the time of my
birth, I have been told one thing in repetitive terms. Not so much my eldest
sister, but my slightly older sister Liz, being only seven years old at the
time of my birth became extremely jealous of me, since she was no longer the
youngest. This jealous rampage continued for a few years, after she just
accepted me as her brother. In terms of my grandparents, I only had the chance
to really only meet one of my grandparents. Both my dad’s parents passed away
either before or shortly after my birth, and I was never given the opportunity
to meet the mom’s father. My Grandma, Raymunda, is the only real grandparent
that I can talk about. I have never been deprived of seeing her, mostly due to
the fact that she lives in the same house as I do.
Following the traditions that have been passed on by my
grandparents, and their parents, and so fourth, there is really only one thing
to mention. The fact that my entire family engages in a family reunion every
Christmas, in a family owned house in
Mexico. My family bakes two turkeys and
usually has a hefty offset of side meals, and dishes for everybody to enjoy.
When it comes to a favorite memory, there is clearly one that takes the
carpet. A couple of years ago, my entire family tuned in for a special
surprise in our yearly family reunion. We all bared witness to my older cousin
admitting that she was indeed pregnant, the chaos and the pandemonium from the
family backlash was incredible.
I have always lived in
Oxnard. Staying consistent in the
city of
Oxnard, it was only fair to reside in the same house my entire life,
same city, same house. Taken upon the filth, and the crowded atmosphere, not
to mention the extremely hot weather, my least favorite city is
Bakersfield.
School, thus far, has been an extremely pleasant
experience to me. Luckily there are various things that I enjoy about school.
Seeing my friends on a daily basis and just the entire concept of getting to
know more and more people is something that makes it worthwhile. Not to
mention that by attending school we allow our future selves to have a better
chance to live a happier a life. There are few things that I dislike about
school, but the things I do not enjoy are related to hateful emotions.
Witnessing such things as fights and even hurtful rumors are things that
happen on a daily basis and are really not needed. I really haven’t
participated in any organizations, or groups here at school, other than
playing soccer here at school my freshman year, I haven’t joined any school
related clubs. I do however plan to join the Red Cross Group next year, which
would be my senior year.
For years I have always had a liking of one particular
subject here at school. Ever since the sixth grade, where most students begin
to show a certain style of writing, I had been told that I have an
extraordinary writing concept. I have made it a bit more obvious over recent
years that
my favorite subject is indeed English, by joining Honors English
classes, and by joining the
English AP class this year. I have always
struggled with math and science is too bland for my liking, so English has
always been my favorite subject.
The subject that I would say gives me the most issues
would have to be math. Though to be fair I am on grade level, as I currently
passed Algebra 2 this year, but regardless it is the subject that I like the
least, as it simply does not come easy to me. In my time here at school I have
yet to receive any real accolades. Not once have I received one from the
school or any teacher, my grades on my report card is the only things that I
really need, or desire.
After graduating high school I simply plan on attending a
community college, something along the lines of our very own
Oxnard College
or
even Ventura College. Two years into either of those colleges, I do plan to
join a university, and hopefully it consists of my dream university,
UCSD. If
I am accepted into a respected university, in the future I do plan in
following in the career of business. Anything that involves some kind of
business management has always interested me, even at a young age.
