My name, Lawrence, was given to me by my father who was
also named Lawrence. But he was not the first person in my family named
Lawrence, he was the fourth. I truly love my name because I do not have a
middle name and I think that is very unique. I was named this because everyone
from my great-great-great grandfather all the way to my father was named
Lawrence. When I have son, I hope to also name him Lawrence.
When I was born my sisters were both at their kindergarten
school. They have told me stories of how my grandfather hurried in, picked them
up and then rushed to the hospital. I am the youngest of three children. I have
spent a lot of time with my grandparents, but not as much as I would like to.
The reason I cannot spend as much time as I would like with them is because my
grandma lives in Arizona and my other grandparents live in Spain. I have lots
of memories going to my grandma’s house in Arizona and they are all fantastic.
Almost every year my dad, my two sisters, and I go to my grandmother’s house in
Arizona for Christmas. It is always very nice and peaceful. I just love it when
our whole family gets together to spend time with each other.
My family and I are very unique in a lot of ways. One way
we are special is that we all are interested in many different things. For
example, one of my sisters is hoping to become a doctor while my other sister is
planning to become a movie producer. Another thing that makes my family unique
is that even though we argue sometimes, we always have a way of coming together
for nice holidays and family meals. One family tradition we have is going to my
Grandma’s house in Arizona for Christmas every year. One of my sisters goes to
college on the east coast and the other moved out of the house when she
graduated from high school. Because both
of them lived far away it is nice to
get to spend time with them at least once a year at Christmas time. Another
tradition we have is all getting together on Thanksgiving to have a nice big
family dinner. One of my favorite memories of a family holiday is when we all
went to Spain for Christmas one year to visit our relatives there. We don’t go
there that often, but when we do it is always fun and exciting.
I have only lived one place my entire life, and that is
Oxnard, CA. There are so many reasons why I love living in Oxnard. For example,
the beach is about 5 minutes away from my house. I enjoy this every much because
I love going to the beach and just having fun. Also, all of my friends live in
Oxnard, and they are all fantastic. Another reason I love living on Oxnard is
that there is so much to do here. There is the mall, the movie theater, tons of
parks, and a bunch of other great things to do. Plus, the weather is always
great here, so it is almost always nice to be outside. I think Oxnard is just
an all around great place to live.
My favorite hobby is definitely drumming. I
love to drum. I have a drum set at home that I am always playing. It is awesome!
I’m also in the marching band at my high school and play snare drum. Drumming
helps me take out stress, calm down, and it is just something fun to do when I’m
bored.
In my spare time I like to do a
lot of different things. One
thing I really like
doing is listening to music. I like most kinds of music, but my favorite genres
are rock, alternative, and metal. I also really like to just hang out with my
friends. This is always fun because even if we are really bored we can always
find something awesome to keep us entertained.
I love playing all different kinds of sports.
My favorites are football, basketball, and soccer. I really like playing sports
because it’s a really fun activity to do with friends and it is an enjoyable and
easy way to get exercise. I’ve only played in an actual sports league a long
time ago when I was very young. It was a basketball team and from what I
remember we were pretty good. I usually just play sports with my friends just
on the weekends and things like that. Even though I have not been on a team for
a while, I plan to either play soccer or be on the track team next year when I
am a sophomore.
I like many things about school. One of the main things
I enjoy is getting the chance
to learn while hanging out with my friends. However, there are some things I
really dislike about school. For example, some of the classes I have are very
boring and I do not feel that I am learning very much from them. I am in a
lot of clubs and organizations at my school. Some of these include
marching band, MESA and
CSF; these clubs are very
interesting and keep me interested in school.
My favorite subject in school right now is definitely
English. This is mainly because the teacher I have is fantastic! The subject
that gives me the most head aches, ironically, is English. This is because a
lot of the stuff we read, such as Shakespeare, is very difficult to understand
and takes a while to fully appreciate it. I have been given various academic
awards. For example, each year since about 5th grade I have
received an Honor Roll award which is given to students who receive a 3.5 GPA
or better. I have also won various awards for my scores on state tests.
I am not totally sure on which University I want to
attend, but one I am interested in is the
University of Santa Barbara. I am attracted to UCSB because it has a very
good engineering program and I plan to have a career in engineering and the
area has great weather. I want to be an engineer because I am always very
interested in building things and understanding how things work and why they
work. This is why I think a career in engineering would be perfect for me.
To sum things up, I am just a kid who lives in a sunny
west coast town, who is very involved with my family and my schoolwork. I
also very much enjoy outdoor activities as much as I like hanging out with my
friends and playing my drum set. I plan on going to a university after
completing high school and after that I would like to pursue a career in
engineering. I am very interested in a variety of activities and I am always
looking for new things to experience.
