When
my mom decided she wanted to have another child she knew that if it was to be a
girl, the name would be Kristin. Nine months later she gave birth to a beautiful
baby girl, yours truly. A mother’s intuition is always right and she knew this
name would fit me best, but my dad did not feel the same way. He wanted my name
to be Christina, or Nicole. Of course my mom did not give in, so they came to
the agreement of having my dad’s choice be the middle name. That is how my name,
Kristin Nicole, was given to me.
“Love bug” is my family nickname. Let me tell you why it is what it is, when I was born the nurse who was
going to hand me over to my dad said
“She’s adorable, she is a little love bug.”
When he gets me in his arms he said “Yes she is my love bug, and always will
be.” Even though a family member did not really give me the nickname, it has
lasted all my life. I also have an older sister and brother who are twins. I
remember them always wanting to be around me, take care of me, and play with me
when I was a baby. My mom told me that sometimes they would fight over me. Now
we are older and of course things have changed, but I know that they will always
love me and protect me.
My family loves holidays,
especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is when all of our family makes an
effort to really spend time together as a family. My favorite memory would be
when I was five years old and we went to Granada Hills to celebrate Christmas
with everybody at my grandma’s house. Before I went to bed I realized we had
forgotten our stockings at home, so I threw a fit like a spoiled brat. My aunt
took me aside and told me that everything would be fine we would just make some
of our own. We got brown paper bags, decorations, and we made our stockings and
it ended up being my favorite.
I was born in
Las Vegas, Nevada September 22, 1990. We lived there until I was four and then we moved to
California.
First we stayed with my grandma in Granada Hills, and then moved out here to
Oxnard. I would have to say Oxnard is the city I like the most. Just because I
lived most of my childhood here, I’ve grown up here, made memories here, and
this is the place I call home.
In my spare time I love to cook. My
family is Italian, and we love to eat
Italian food. My grandma is the one who
taught me how to make everything I know. It started when I was little and I
would be at her house and she would cook her Italian dishes for me. I would just
watch her and take in what she was doing. When I was old enough to use the stove
and other appliances, she started to teach me step by step. I feel in love with
cooking because it became my escape. When I am upset, angry, sad, or if I have
time I just find a new recipe to make and I just let go of what I am going
through and make a delicious meal for my family to enjoy.
When I was in elementary
school at Christa McAuliffe, I was on the girl’s basketball team and also the
cheerleading competition team. I enjoyed playing basketball on my free time, so
I decided to join the team.
I was not that good and even though there were
definitely better players on the team I had fun and it was a good experience. I
had been on the cheerleading squad since I was in the fourth grade, and I loved
it. I enjoyed cheering for the basketball team, and performing at school events. When I was in
the sixth grade I tried out for the competition team, I made it. We practiced so
hard, and we finally got our routine down. The time came to show off what we had
worked so hard for, and it was the best feeling in the world. It was a huge rush
to get out there in front of hundreds of people and just do our thing. We took
home first place. Even though I had a great experience, cheerleading did not
keep my interest after that, and that was the last year I cheered.
Everybody says high school is a once in a life
time experience, and it is up to you what you make of it. You could make it the
best time of your life, or it can be something that you just want to get
through. I believe that the education as well as the experiences you endure
during your high school years is important to how you will succeed in the
future. Without a high school diploma these days, it is really hard to find a
good paying job, or even find a career that you are happy with. When I was a
freshman I did not know the importance of the education side of school, I was
just excited to be in high school. That attitude soon wore off due to teachers
that kept pushing me.
Now
that it is my senior year I am focused on my education more than anything,
because I know that without this I will not be able to become the person I want
to be, and achieve the goals I have set out for myself. Don’t get me wrong
though because honestly I hate high school, but I know that graduating is my
only way out. I am not a book worm or anything like that, I love hanging out
with my friends and having a good time, but you just have to learn how to
balance the two. High school can be a challenge because you have the
annoying freshman, the cliques, the crazy teachers, long days, and most of the
time you have drama. Those are the things about high school that make it seem
not worth it, but at the end when your walking through the line every second
will be worth it.
Through the years of having different classes,
subjects, and teachers at
Oxnard High School there have been two classes that I actually enjoyed
attending. Mr. Chase’s composition class was one of my favorites. From the
nature walks to listening to all different types of music while writing in our
journals. I guess it was so chill because he related to us, and let us learn on
our own level. His class was really cool and kickback, but Mrs. Hopple-Cuellar’s
marketing class was super fun. Given it is a lot of work, but she makes it
interesting. I learned a lot about business in that class which was useful
because that is the career path I want to take.
In my near future after I graduate I plan to
attend Ventura College and get into their
nursing program
there. I want to be a nurse because I love helping
people,
and I know that if I become a certified nurse I will always be able to have a
good paying job. I also want to open my own business too, so I am planning on
getting a degree in business as well. I know that these two career paths are
very different but I like to challenge myself, and I have set out many goals so
I always have a back up plan.
Everything comes to an
end, and unfortunately this is where my story stops. Now you have an idea of what kind of person I
am. Obviously,
I am very family oriented, I love to be with my friends,
enjoy to cook, and I have big goals set out for myself.
I am excited to graduate and start my life as an adult in the real world, as
they say. I hope that soon I will be a successful nurse, or business woman with
a family, and live happily ever after.
