My name, John, was given to me by my parents from my
great-grandfather who we call Pop. I don’t have many stories of when I was born.
The one that I remember the most would be when I got my first and only dog,
Copper. I was glad at the time since I was an only child. But when my little
brother, Joseph, was born, my mother had to give him away since the house was
too crowded for a pet. While we are on the subject, I am the oldest of 3 and I
am 15. My little brother, Joseph, is 11 and my little sister, Jozelle, is 7. As
you can see, all of our names start with a “J”. That was my parents’ choice as
well. When my brother was born, I was excited to have a little brother to play
with, but now that he and I are older, we usually have small fights with each
other, which end up with him losing. When my little sister was born, I had the
same reaction as when my little brother was born, but now she’s in her own world
now and she annoys me daily. The memories of my grandmother’s house were the
most fun and exciting that I’ve had. When we went to visit her in Illinois, I
and my siblings had a lot of fun. The snow was the best part, especially the
snowball fights and the snow-forts.
The special thing about my family is the fact that my
mother is Philipino. My siblings and I are only half Philipino because our dad
is white. Another interesting tidbit about my family is that we have many
relatives, including some back in the Philippines. My mother has a lot of family
ties in California. Though some of them are not by blood, I could not love them
anymore if I could. A special tradition is mostly just getting together with
family and just having a family gathering every now and then. My favorite
holiday memory with my family is when we visited my grandparents in Illinois
during Christmas. We had a lot of fun in the snow and that Christmas couldn’t
have been any better.
I have lived in
Oxnard, California for as long as I can
remember. When I was younger, about 5 or 6, we visited my mom’s family in the
Philippines. My favorite city to live in was Oxnard because a lot of my friends
live in this city. Also, it’s because it is a fun place to live. The Philippines
was fun too because I met a lot of my cousins that I had never seen before. I
constantly wonder what they look like now because I haven’t visited the
Philippines in a while.
My
favorite hobby is playing video games and going on the internet to chat with
friends. I started playing video games when I was 9 or 10 years old. My first
system was one of the really old, bulky Game Boys and my first game was
Kirby’s
Dreamland. Ever since then, I have been addicted to video games. My favorite
genres are first-person shooters, RPGs (role-playing games), and racing games.
My favorite games are the Halo series (first-person shooter), the Final Fantasy
and Poke’mon series (RPGs), and the Need for Speed series (racing).
When it comes to the internet, you could say I’m an addict.
I usually go on for online games and chatting with friends, but I also use it
for research on school
projects and typing up assignments for my classes. My
favorite site to go to is called Gaiaonline.com. It
is a site where I hang out and talk with my friends, kind of like myspace.com,
but for anime and gaming people.
In
my spare time, I like to read and draw. The books I read mainly are called
manga,
or Japanese comic books, and are read from right to left instead of the
traditional left to right. But I also like to read novels by Stephen King and I
mainly read horror novels and stuff about Japan. I read stuff about Japan
because, someday, I would like to move to Japan. What I draw is mainly mythical
weapons like magical swords or guns that don’t run out of bullets. I also am an
amateur anime artist as well as an anime junkie. I hope that one day, I will be
more skilled with my weapon drawing and anime drawing.
I
play mainly football because it is simply the best sport available at my high
school, Oxnard High School. What I liked best about football is that it is
exciting and invigorating to watch and it’s even more fun to play. I played a
little bit of linebacker and I was on the kick return team. I may have not been
the best player on the JV team, but I was certainly one of the hardest workers
on the JV team. My JV team’s record for the season was 4-6. Even though it was
not a winning record, our coaches were very proud of how hard everybody had
worked during the season. Our best game was one that we lost. We faced Camarillo
at our field and we lost 0-3. The only point scored was Camarillo’s field goal.
But our coaches worked hard and so did everybody that played. It was also one of
our closest and most exciting games. I may have been cut from Varsity, but that
just means that I have to work hard and try out in April. That group was like
another family to me and everyone had each others’ backs. My favorite NFL team
is the San Diego Chargers.
Some things that I like about my school are the friends
that I see there and some of my classes. Many of my friends, I talk to in
school, but we also keep in touch via internet. Sometimes we help each other
with homework and other times we just chat. But school also has its downers too.
The main thing is the homework. Sometimes I won’t get the problem, so I have to
wait until the next day to ask my teacher about it. But that’s why I have my
friends to help me with my homework. The other thing that ticks me off in school
is the fact that some people think they are better than others. I know some of
us can’t avoid it, but we should at least keep it to ourselves. Some people that
I see brag about how much money they have or what expensive car they have. It
drives me nuts! A few clubs that I have joined are the Anime club (Yes, there is
one) and the football team, as previously mentioned.
My
favorite subject in high school is math. Most people hate math because they
think it is hard. The only reason that it is hard is because the student
themselves make it hard. My reason for saying this is they make it harder on
themselves by not paying attention in class and not asking questions about
problems that they don’t know or need help on. My most hated subject is English.
It gave me major headaches with all the reading and the writing. The reason it
is hard for me is because I sometimes don’t understand what I am reading and I
ask the teacher about it and they just explain it in a way that makes it harder
for me. An award that I received was for having higher than a 3.0 GPA on the
football team. My parents were very proud of that.
I don’t really have any particular university or college I
want to go to, but I want to go to a college in Utah because it has very nice
cities and one of my friends lives in Utah. After I graduate high school, I plan
on going to a college and getting a business major. I plan on getting a business
major because I like working with math and numbers. I’d like to work in a
business because I would do very well in an accounting department or anything
that works with math.
