The name Elena was given to me by my father. The reason he chose the name was because he wanted to make it different than other Mexican names that were used often at the time I was born.

A funny memory that I don’t really remember but was told to me is, when I was two years old my sister were watching over me on the top bunk bed while my mom was cooking. Carelessly they fell asleep and I fell from the bed to the cement floor, when I woke up I was in the hospital, surprisingly I had no injuries at all not even a single bruise. I am the youngest out of seven children; I have four sisters and two brothers. My grandparents live in Mexico and I usually get to spend time with them once a year to the most. My two grandmas died before I was born so I only have grandpas, the best memories that I had were with my moms’ dad because he buys me everything I want in Mexico and is always caring about me.

There isn’t really anything unique about my family because we’re just an ordinary Mexican family that does everything like any other would. My family celebrates Halloween the Mexican style which is called “Dia De Los Muertos” we remembers those who are dead and in a way worship them but not like if they were gods, instead we just appreciate them by bringing them food, fruits, drinks for them at the end of the day it is said that the dead are happy because they weren’t forgotten by their relatives. All my family holidays are the best memories that I carry with me all the time.

I was born in Washington and only lived there for one year, and then I was moved to Oregon for two years, later I came to California for two years, then I went to Mexico for two years and finally my family decided to settle in Oxnard, California. The city that I like the best was in Mexico because everything was so natural and my whole family was together even my grandparents. The city that I liked least was Oregon because I didn’t have many friends and the weather was always cold.

My favorite hobby is bike riding. I learned how to ride a bike when I was eight years old, and ever since, I liked the feeling of air passing through my face as I increase my velocity. Even though bike riding is fun it can get really dangerous, for example I once fell off my bike without any protection at a very fast pace and landed on the cement, my whole body scraped the cement and I was bleeding severely. I usually go bike riding with my friends and race around.

In my spare time I like listening to music. My favorite artist is Marilyn Manson; I own most of his albums. The genres that I like listening to are Rock, Metal, and Electronic. My favorite sport is playing basketball. What I like best about it is that it keeps your body in shape. I used to play for the Junior High team as the right wing, unfortunately, I was forbidden to continue playing due to health problems. Although my team wasn’t the best, when the season ended in my first year I got the MVP trophy. Being on a team was so fun because I got to make a lot of new friends and it made basketball more exciting to look forward every day.

School is enjoyable because it is a whole different environment than being at home, it is a new place where I can be socially active and meet new friends. What makes school uninteresting are the classes can sometimes get boring and make you go to sleep or when a class is hard to understand and the teacher gives you a lot of homework.

My favorite subject is Geometry because it is really easy for me to understand and I have always been good at solving problems. The subject that mostly gives me headaches is English because it is so confusing, and hard to remember all the parts of speeches, also I really don’t like reading. In the past I have received about ten; Student of the Month awards, one Student of the Year award, one certificate for perfect attendance, and an award for Most Valuable Player in the basketball team.

I plan to attend California State University Long Beach because it is one of the top five public comprehensive universities in the western United States. My plans in the future are to continue studying until I graduate with a degree on my subject and get a high paying job. In the future I want a career field in Electrical Engineering, the reason I choose to do this career field is because I love technology and it amazes me to see all the new things that are coming out. If I study this career myself I might get to become really rich and invent the next best technology tool.

In reality I am just an ordinary girl with a Mexican heritage that likes to be active by playing sports and listens to music on her free time. I am usually quite but hate being in boring situations, I am really opened minded and have a great sense of humor, to sum it up I am very easy to get along with.
