My name, Megan Marie, was given to my by my mother. My
first name is nothing special, but my middle name is also both of my great
grandmothers’ middle names. I was supposed to be named Tyler Marie, but my
grandfather wouldn’t let my mom name me that, he thought it was a boys name.
So, instead she chose Megan, just because she liked it.
I must have had some pretty weird habits; my family has
many embarrassing stories about me when I was younger. One I remember is when
I got sixteen stitches on my chin; it took six nurses and my mom to hold me
down. I actually bit my mom’s finger. I was only seven at that time. I must
have been strong. I’m an only child, and I don’t know my biological father, or
his side of my genes, whatsoever. I spend lots of time with my mom’s dad and
step-mother; my grandparents, they helped raise me, and I’m actually living in
their house currently. I remember having sleepovers with them on our boat, when
I was younger. I loved the water, and fishing off our docks every night.
Feeding our ducks cat food was a big favorite of mine too.
The most unique thing about my family is that we are very
small. I’m actually the last generation carrying my last name. Besides myself,
the youngest in my family is forty- four years old, who is my mother, who is
also an only child. The only traditions my family has is celebrating birthdays,
Thanksgiving, and Christmas together. The best holiday we’ve ever had was
probably the Thanksgiving in 1999. That was when my great grandfather was still
alive, and I could actually remember it too. My family never fought back then,
he sort of kept us all on the same level. He was an amazing man. Sadly, he
died the next year. Since then, things have been nothing the same.
I’ve only lived a few different places. I’ve always had a
home in Oxnard, but I’ve also had houses and condos in Newbury Park, Northridge,
and Las Vegas. For about 10 months, I lived in Vegas. I hated it at first, but
by then end I didn’t mind it. I moved back to Oxnard though, because it’s
my real home, by the beach, with all my friends and grandparents. Vegas is
a bad influence, anyways.
I’ve swam my whole life. I’m definitely a water baby. They
took my floaties off at age four, and I’ve been swimming on my own since. In my
spare time, I like to shop for cheap jewelry, and sunglasses. I also like going
to the beach, or the harbor and sail. Other than that, I enjoy spending time
with friends, going out.
When I was about seven, I started doing gymnastics, a few
months later, I joined a competitive cheer team;
Club Cheer Twisters. I cheered
on that team on and off for about 6 years. We won many competitions, including
internationals in Hawaii. What I liked best about it, was probably stunting,
or, throwing girls in the air. Sometimes, I even liked conditioning. The
competitions were the best part, though. Performing gives you a rush. About
two summers ago, I had to quit, because we found out I’m in need of a major
surgery on both of my feet. Cheerleading was damaging them more, and so, I
could no longer play anything other than water sports.

That’s when I started playing water polo, here at
OHS. I
had been swimming my whole life, and heard about this sport from friends of mine. I played for about three months, then got kicked out for bad grades. It’s
only been about a year since then, and I’m thinking about playing again, I miss
my old teammates, and being fit.
The best part of school is my pre school aid class. I
love teaching the kids, and I think it’s cool we have a pre school on campus. I
also love being able to spend time with my friends before school, in class, and
during lunch. I don’t like the fact that we actually have to pay attention in
most classes, and that each class is an hour and a half. I don’t currently
participate on a team, club or organization at OHS, but I used to play on our
water polo team; as I’ve mentioned before.
My favorite school subject would have to be science. It’s
actually very interesting, like history, but less boring. The subject I dislike
the most is probably English. I hate writing essays and reading English
literature. I’ve received many awards for attendance, improvement, grades, and
sports; not at Oxnard High, though.
I’m not quite sure what I’d like to do with my future yet.
I do know I want to be an adolescent psychologist, but I don’t plan on going to
university straight out of high school. I’m probably going to
Ventura College
for two years, then transferring to
The University of Santa Monica. After I go
there for another two years, I’ll transfer to an even better university and get
my doctorate. I’m really into helping troubled teens. I’ve been through many
of the things other troubled teens have, and I absolutely love my therapist for
helping me how he did. I want to do that for someone else, and I want teenagers
to know there is someone they can come to.
I’m Megan Marie; an only child with the greatest mother
and grandparents a kid
could have. I grew up in Oxnard, California. I’ve been swimming, sailing, and
cheering since a young girl. My passion is helping people, especially other
teens. I’d like to get my doctorate in psychology. And, I absolutely cannot
wait until I graduate.
