I’ve had many names and nicknames given to me by my family.
The one that got the honor of being printed on my birth certificate happened to
be Drake. The name has many meanings: dragon, male duck, Viking ship, and I’m
sure it has some Chinese or Japanese meanings. My older brother, who voted to
call me “froggy”, later nicknamed me Buttsavage. This was probably my family’s
favorite nickname.
I had some strange characteristics during my early
childhood. For example, crawling backwards and eating toothpaste. One time when
I was in a closed off play area, I crawled backwards under a chair which hid me
completely, and freaked my parents out for a few minutes. I have one older
brother named Erik, and we were born about 7 years apart. I hardly remember
anything from when I was really small, except for when I thought I saw a ghost
and a few memories of preschool. I rarely went to my grandparent’s house, except
for my closest living one, Mimi. For the most part, they came to my house
because they lived so far away.
We used to always have parties for holidays including:
Easter, New Years, and my favorite, Christmas; but this has slowed down a lot in
the past few years; however we do still have family parties for most occasions.
My family nowadays spends most of the time doing our separate things;
occasionally we’ll watch a movie together or something.
I have lived in Oxnard all my life and I was born in the
Saint John’s hospital. My favorite place to visit is probably Lake Tahoe; there
we have friends come with us to go on snowboarding trips. It’s about a nine hour
drive to get there, but the way up has great views, and seeing the snow covering
the mountains has always been a real cool sight. There haven’t been any places
that I really disliked, unless all I did there is stay inside most of the time;
which I did when I went to Las Vegas when my parents wanted to take a business
class.
One of my favorite things to do is play guitar. What type
of music you ask? Why none other than thrash metal! I’ve been playing since 8th
grade, which would make it roughly 2 years. My favorite band since I’ve started
is Trivium. It’s something about their riffs that makes playing them so amazing,
and the way they harmonize both guitars makes it fun to play with someone else.
People tell me I need to “branch out”, but as long as I’m happy playing the same
songs over and over, I don’t really care. I’m really picky when it comes to
music too, and if it isn’t heavy, fast, or interesting enough I immediately
disapprove and go on to the other choices. I know there are a lot of great bands
out there, and I’m not saying Trivium is the only band I like; I just really
enjoy playing their music.
Currently, I play water polo for Oxnard High School. Even
though I was forced into it, I like more than any other team sport I’ve played.
I usually play anything but d-hole and set. Our JV team has won league for many,
many years, but last year was one of the first times that we haven’t been
undefeated. Varsity has a lot more trouble and competition than we do, and I
haven’t heard of them winning league that many times before either.

Besides water polo, I’m into board sports like
snowboarding, skateboarding, and surfing. I’ve been snowboarding and surfing
since I was about 11, and skating since I started 7th grade.
There isn’t a whole lot that I can say I like about school.
The only thing that I actually enjoy doing is spending time with friends. I
dislike about everything else, I hate how time consuming it is, and it isn’t
very fun doing home and class work. I play water polo and swim here for my
sports. They’re kind of fun, but the best parts are the work outs and getting a
tan.
My
favorite subject is probably math. I have no idea why I like it, but I do for
some reason, and it will probably come in handy later. It’s also the one that’s
been the toughest, and I’m always making stupid mistakes on tests and
assignments. I’ve won two awards for the two years I’ve been playing water polo,
and they were both the “most improved” award.
I have no clue what college I’m going to end up going to, I
just know that college is where I’m trying to go after high school. Not only
that, but I don’t have even a general path towards a career. I should probably
think about this kind of stuff more, but maybe after it gets a little closer
I’ll have a better direction.
Basically I’m just at school to go to college and get some
job that pays well. It would be nice to have a sort of “dream job”, but I don’t
feel like I need a definite path right now. Instead of having a job that’s fun,
I’m planning to have one that gives me spare time to work on my random projects
and hobbies.
