My favorite hobby is
basketball. Even though I love playing this sport
it’s also very helpful
physically. Since your running up and down the court it is a very good exercise
and can really get your body and heart in outstanding condition. The main
reasons why basketball is my favorite hobby are, I like running, I’m really good
at it, I can score many points, it’s very popular and I love people cheering me
on while playing.
As a school athlete I experienced so many basketball
fundamentals and skills I never thought I would be able to master such as, the
crossover dribble maneuver in which a player dribbling the ball,
switches
the ball rapidly from one hand to the other and allows you to go
around the defender, make a long range shot which is a jump shot from far away
from the basket and “break some one’s ankles” which is while making a move the defender falls on the ground because his of balance. I also experienced what is
feels playing all the positions, so I pretty much know all about the sport and
what every position requires.
Even though I only played one year as a point guard, this
is what I mostly enjoyed playing. A point guard is known as one of the
“ball-handlers”. He/she has to be able to run fast, have some speed, create
separation, create some space to dribble, set up the plays, but its main job is
to create scoring opportunities for his/her team. This doesn’t mean he can’t
score or shoot the ball but the really good point guards have a really affective
jump shoot which is what every basketball coach dreams of.
Since
this is my favorite hobby of course I have to have a favorite basketball team
and favorite players. Well one of my favorite team of course the
Los Angeles Lakers and the other one is the
Washington Wizards. I really like these teams because of the way they play
but mostly because of their star players. For instance from the Los Angeles
Lakers
Kobe Bryant was the number one scoring leader through out the all players
two consecutive years during
2005-2006 and
2006-2007 and is one of my favorite players; however the
Washington Wizards
have
Gilbert Arenas who also was the
Eastern Conference
number one scoring leader two consecutive years during
2005-2006 and
2006-2007 and also is my favorite player in the entire NBA. I admire these
two players so much because some times their performance in the basketball court
is unbelievable and because they are a perfect example of how a leader should
be, especially
Gilbert Arenas.
