I was my parent's first born child there was no reason for them to name me Anthony other then they liked the name. Although, if I were to be a girl I would have been named Yolanda. Growing up my family used to call me Ant because I was so tiny and it was the first three letters of my name, but Grandpa HATED it when people would call me Ant.  He would yell “NO THAT’S NOT HIS NAME, HIS NAME IS ANTHONY!” Ha ha good times. I am one of five children, three are by marriage but blood couldn’t make us any closer! The youngest is Emiliano, age 6; next is my sister Michelle, age 14. Then there is my brother Daniel; age 14. Then me, age 17; Then there was my oldest brother Tony; age 21. Growing up I spent a lot of time with mi abuelita y mi abuelito, my Dad’s parents. Every day after school I would walk to my grandparents’ house, and mi abuelito would have fresh cut fruit for Daniel and I to eat. At least once a week mis abuelitos would take Daniel and I to the beach to play then the four of us would watch the sun set.

My family is extremely huge, some of it isn’t even by blood, but blood couldn’t make us any closer. As a whole, we are all very close knit, mi abuelito set a foundation that God and family were top priorities in our lives. Some of my fondest memories took place in mis abuelitos house. Especially Christmas, my family from all over Texas, Mexico, and Los Angeles would come to gather for Christmas. Lucky for me my birthday is a week before Christmas so I would always rake in on gifts for my birthday because all my family would be around.

Growing up I moved very little but my grandparent’s house always remained home for me. I was born in San Jose and moved to Oxnard when I was 4, when Daniel was born. I lived in Oxnard until I was 16, then I moved to Gilroy which is just outside of San Jose. I lived in Gilroy for a year until I returned to Oxnard. Living in Gilroy brought me much closer to my family, my family values, God, and mi cultura. Although I learned a great deal about myself and my family in only a year, there will still be no place like Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Growing up I have always had a passion for music, all kinds of music, oldies, funk, disco, Motown,  hip-hop, rap, and R&B-- you name it; I liked it. So as I got older, I grew an interest in becoming a DJ. Some call it a profession and some call it a hobby, honestly I don’t care much. I play music and I help people have a good time. I am now apart of “MD Entertainment Group” and get paid to play. To me it is still a hobby, because I love music and that’s what drives me to practice more and more everyday. In my spare time I practice my DJ skills, and create play lists… it’s fun and productive at the same time. My best friend Josh, a.k.a DJ McAzian, and I practice a lot and in many ways teach each other the tricks of the trade.

I have always loved sports, my parents got me involved in sports when I was young and I loved it. I played basketball, baseball, and football. Football was what I truly loved. I have been playing football since I was eight and had a passion for the game ever since. I also played varsity baseball for Gilroy High, overall we had a good season. We were first in league, made it to the semi-finals and won many tournaments along the way. I also played football for Oxnard High school. I did not pursue basketball after the 8th grade, but my freshmen year of high school I made the Oxnard high School wrestling team. I enjoyed it but after a year I was done, I had no aspiration to wrestle after my freshman year.

I am currently a senior at Oxnard High School, I went to Oxnard my freshman and sophomore year but went to Gilroy High my junior year. I truly like the new schedule here at OHS because I went from three classes a day two hours a piece, to four classes a day an hour and a half a piece. I have first period dismissal so it is nice to sleep in and not have to come to school until 9:30. I do not like that nutrition and lunch are so short. At Gilroy High I was apart of the Gilroy High Latinos club, but here at Oxnard I am not apart of any clubs.

My favorite subject in school was Mexican-American History, because I learned so much about my cultura and myself. But that subject is not offered at Oxnard. So now my favorite class is Video Production, not for the reasons you would think. I like Video Production because you perceive the world in a different prospective, and our teacher, Mr. Legohn, makes us think different. He forces us to think for ourselves, not to fallow what the crowd or media says but to go against the grain and think different. I am constantly put up to challenges that I am forced to think and use the knowledge I gain to succeed. That’s why I enjoy Video Production. I most definitely dread third period, most of the time I like math but not this term I can’t stand being in that class.

After high school it is my intent to go to San Jose State University and become a Spartan. I chose San Jose State because my dad graduated from SJSU, and it would allow me to move back to Northern California to be with my family and watch my youngest brother Emiliano grow up. My friend Ricardo and I would like to go to SJSU together, that way we can room together. I would like to earn my major in education so I can become a teacher. Later in life I would like to open a restaurant, 50’s diner style. I know it may seem slightly random that I long to be a teacher and a restaurant owner, but it is my dream.

This is me, this is who I am. My family is of the utmost importance to me, I hold my brothers and sister closest to my heart. My grandpa considered it a great accomplishment that he was able to receive his Doctorate degree, maintain a full time job, and raise a family of five children. He instilled that into my dad, and now with my ambitions I hope to accomplish the same in life. Along with family, God, and education, music is also something I am passionate about, I love music and I love to have a good time.  I am Anthony Dominguez, a dream driven man who is going to do what it takes to make my dreams a reality.
