My mom was thinking of a name for my sister and at the top
of her list was my name, Samantha. But my dad didn’t like the name at the time,
so in other words, it got vetoed. Then eleven years later, when I was born, my
mom and dad agreed on the name, Samantha. The big joke, when I was born, was
that I was a convince store because I weighed 7 lbs. and11 oz. Get it? 7-eleven,
the convince store? Everyone thought that I was named after Samantha Stevens,
you know the witch in Bewitched, or for Samantha from Who’s the Boss.
A funny thing about me and my cousin’s names is that she was named Alyssa and I,
Samantha. The actress who played Samantha was named Alyssa. My older sister and
brother are my only siblings. My brother is nine years older than me and my
sister is eleven years older. Since I was the last one born I didn’t get a
chance to be there when my siblings were born. I didn’t go to my grandparents’
houses a lot because they lived far away, so there weren’t many memories of
times with them.
My family and I are
NASCAR addicts. We love anything
NASCAR. My dad works on a race car on Saturdays and so does my sister. My
brother is into R/C racing and has his own motor company. My dad is a state
champion and my brother is a national champion. Next year, if it doesn’t
interfere with my volleyball, I will be able to work on a race car too.
Something we always try to do is watch the NASCAR race. My mom and I always try
to get out and run at least twice a
week, so I can keep up with my volleyball
required mile (under eight minutes of course). My favorite family memory, I don’t
remember it very well, was going to
Disneyland and riding the teacups until I
got dizzy and my family had to practically drag me off the ride. My mom and dad
were divorced before I could ever really remember a holiday together but I’m
glad I am able to spend it with them.
I was born in
Pasadena, California, and shortly after we
moved to Duarte, were I lived until I was four. Now we live in Oxnard and this
is my tenth year here. I don’t remember any other towns besides Oxnard and it
has been fun here. I like going over to Saugus to visit my dad and brother, for
it is a nice city and I like it.
When I
get free time away for homework and other school related activities I like to
read books and listen to music. When I have free time to read I will just stay
there and read until either I have to do something else or I have finished the
book. Most books only take me about a day to read, even the long ones.
Although I love music, I have never taken any lessons or found an instrument
that I have wanted to play. In my spare time I read, doodle, play volleyball
in the house, or watch television.
I
have played three sports; volleyball, basketball, and softball. Of these
sports, I like volleyball the best. I like volleyball because, when I see the
teams working together and getting the kills, digs or blocks, I know that they
have worked for it. Nothing is fun unless you work for it, train for it, or
practice for it. I am on our high school Junior Varsity team for volleyball
and this year all of our divisions won the Pacific View League Championship
(again). On the team I was a middle blocker and that was fun except for the
fact that I didn’t get to play back row.
The best family trip (I hope) will be this Thanksgiving.
For it is both Thanksgiving and my grandfather’s 80th birthday
party. The party was supposed to be a surprise, but someone blew the cover. We
will be going to our grandparents’ house in Bethany, Oklahoma. Some states I
have traveled to include Minnesota, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, and at least
five others. The worst thing about the trips we go on is the driving, it takes
forever. The best part is being able to get out and walk after a long drive,
and to be in a different state. The drive would make my sister tired but not
me. I love being in a car it is so much fun to drive and I can’t wait until I
can drive. When I am able to drive I will be able to go on many road trips
I’ll think about taking some of my friends along. What fun is a road trip when
you go all by yourself?
The things that I like
about school include the friends I have made, the friends I have kept and just
the people that are at this school. What I don’t like about school is the way
some people treat each other. Some people are just so mean to others that they
don’t care that they may hate someone for a trait that they also have. I have
participated in the
MESA program
for two years, and this year I am running for Secretary of the school’s MESA
program.
Even though I like almost all of the
subjects at school, my favorite is math. I will try to incorporate mathematics
with anything. (I even made a formula to find out what locker you’d have!) Of
all the subjects, I don’t care for my chemistry class as a result of the teacher
not being able to keep the students’ attention, which makes it harder for the
students to learn the material. Over the years I have accumulated many awards.
They include; my numerous academic achievement awards, my sports awards, and my
MESA awards. Then I once got a music award but the thing that really confused me
was that I got the award when I didn’t even play a musical instrument. And In 2nd
and 3rd grades I got perfect attendance for the whole years, while in
kindergarten I got it for only half of the year, for I was sick later that year.
I was thinking about going to college
maybe in Tennessee or Nebraska, I am still unsure were I want to go to school. I
would like a career in forensic science and to become a crime scene
investigator. Once I saw the show
CSI
I was hooked and I knew that was what I wanted to be. If that doesn’t work I
want to try my hand at writing books, since I like to read them why can’t I try
writing them? I’d want to do this because I’m good at creating imaginations in
my head and, sometimes, on paper.
