My name, Rebekah, was given to me by
both my parents. I was named after a woman in the bible. I’m not aware of my
family having any special stories of when I was born. I am the youngest out of
four children; I have one older sister and two older brothers. What I think is
very special and interesting about my family, is that I can talk to anyone about
anything, and I won’t feel awkward or out of place.
I always enjoy spending time with my
grandparents. Ever since I could remember, I have been going to their house or
see them at least twice a week. One of my best memories of going to my grandma’s
house, is when I was younger, she taught me how to make pumpkin empanadas, and
tamales. To this day, every year around Christmas time and on special
gatherings, I go over to her house to help her prepare the food and desserts.
My family has many special holiday
traditions. One tradition is that every Thanksgiving we go to my grandma’s house
to have a big family lunch (Although we normally end up staying to eat dinner as
well.). Another family tradition, is every Christmas all the family comes to my
house to have a big Christmas lunch and dinner. Normally it lasts from about
noon until midnight. In addition, either on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, my
family has a huge party not only to celebrate the new year, but also to
celebrate my birthday, since I was born on New Year’s Day.
I have lived in the city of Oxnard, and
only here. However, I would like to travel or move out of California, or the
country just so I could see what it feels like to have to live and adapt to a
new environment. Unfortunately, my family has no special reason to move, so it
looks like I’m not going anywhere for a while (At least until I graduate high
school, then hopefully, I can study out of the country.)
I actually do not have a “favorite
hobby”. Though, I like to do many things that I think are very fun and
interesting. For example, I very much enjoy cooking, baking, and writing
poetry. Whenever I get the chance to cook or bake something I will; if I have
had a rough day, or just when I want to relax, poetry is where I let all my
stress out. I have never actually played a musical instrument. In seventh
grade I was very interested in learning how to play the flute. However, I
never got around to taking lessons, or teaching myself. In my spare time I
usually go on the computer to check my email, watch TV, watch movies, or
hang out with friends and family. When I hang out with my family and friends,
we normally go to the movies, or go somewhere that is fun.
I

Currently,
I am not playing any sports. Nor have I ever been on a sports team. However,
on my own time I like to go running. Once in a while, I’ll go running with my
brother’s Cross Country team, just for the heck of it, but lately I’ve just
been running in the evenings by myself. Some people say that it’s boring to go
running, or jogging by your self. However, I see it as quite the opposite;
it’s a good way to let my stress out and just rejuvenate. As long as I have my
running shoes, and my iPod I’m care free, and good to go.
One of the best trips I have been on,
that I can remember, was in eighth grade. I went to San Francisco with my
youth group. We went to see the Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, and
then we went to the Giant’s stadium for an awesome concert. I think the best
thing about the trip was that I got to go to the concert and hang out with my
friends. The worst part of the trip was that I didn’t feel good for the
majority of the time we were there, so I didn’t get to enjoy the trip as much
as I could have.
There are not many things that I like
about school. However, one of the few things that I do enjoy about school is the
food at lunch, and that I get to see my friends. My favorite thing to get at
school is a chocolate chip cookie, with a fried burrito. If they don’t have any
chocolate chip cookies left then I get macadamia nut. In difference, what I
dislike about school is that we have homework in our classes, and just basically
sitting in class for a long time. Currently, I am not involved in any sports,
clubs or events. However, I plan on joining the Christian Club and the French
Club.
My favorite subject in school is
currently French. I very much enjoy learning the language as well as learning
about the French culture. I received an attendance award in seventh grade, and
several improvement awards in grade school.
There are many colleges and universities
in which I am very interested in; however, I have not yet decided which I would
like to attend. After I graduate from high school I plan on going to an
out-of-state college or university. There are many fields and careers that
interest me, especially, the field of computers. I would like to become either a
Computer Technician or a Web Designer.
In conclusion, I enjoy life to its
fullest. When I am with family or friends that is when I can truly appreciate
life. In addition, I really like going to my youth group, I enjoy running, and
anything that is fun. Above all, I try to live one day as though it was my last,
and be thankful for every blessing God has given me.
